I've been reading and rereading the Christmas story this month.
The angels, when delivering their message, began with "Fear Not!"
The secondary messages delivered to the listeners were:
"your prayers are answered"
"you have found favour with God"
"Mary will have a son, and you are to name him, Jesus"
"I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people!"
"Glory to God... peace on earth, good will to men!"
The Christmas story is littered with expressions of -
'in those days',
'in the days of'
'as the days'
'after the days'
'all the days'
'the days were accomplished'
Not much has changed.
Then, TODAY, I listened to these lyrics anew -
I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play
And mild and sweet their songs repeat
Of peace on Earth, good will to men
And in despair I bowed my head
"There is no peace on Earth, " I said
For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on Earth, good will to men
Then rang the bells more loud and deep
God is not dead, nor doth He sleep
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on Earth, good will to men
Peace on Earth, good will to men
There may not be peace on earth these days, but "the last chapter isn't written yet". So, until then, we can enjoy / appreciate the message of "Fear Not, you! your prayers are answered, you have found favour with God, the Good News, peace on earth, and good will to men". Blessings
MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and yours!
